How to read this monument?
Lake Iznik is the largest freshwater lake in the Marmara Region and shapes not only the landscape of the city but also its agriculture, fishing and settlement history. The ancient harbour, the Lake Gate and the underwater basilica remind us that the shore has been a transportation and living space for centuries. Although today the lake shows its strongest face at sunset, its ecological sensitivity is more important than the view.
