Walking İznik Baths and Water Culture ü
I. AaUppercase Discover Murat and İsmail Bey baths with water paths, neighborhood layout and early Ottoman everyday life.
In this article4
The baths of Iznik are not only washed structures. Water supply, heating, neighborhood life, foundation layout and public meeting culture combines in the same architecture. Although the domes and thick walls are closed outside, there is a controlled experience that monitors the dressing, warmness and temperature sections each other.
Today the functions and access conditions of baths can be different from each other. Some of them are used as a cultural venue, some of them can only be read from outside. This route aims to compare the location and architectural language of three buildings in the city instead of offering the current service promise.

I. Murat Hamam: Double Bath Layout
Haji Hamza Bath also known as the structure shows the double Hammam layout with separate sections for women and men. Stone and brick german mesh, domes and light eyes make early Ottoman construction language readable even outside.
Verify the use of the structure today on the day of the trip. See the narrow doors, water channels and wall thickness, which provides temperature switch between spaces, not only to the main dome.
II. Murat Bath: Continuity in the City
Observe street texture around the bath in the second stop. The baths were mainly working as a neighborhood infrastructure, not only as a monument, but with mosque, bazaar and housing.
Repair marks on the facade indicate that the structure adapts to changing needs in different periods. A part of the original, one section can be completed; you can follow this separation material color, joints and changes in the wall weave.

İsmail Bey Bath: Detail in Small Scale
İsmail Bey Bath offers a different reading from large double baths with a smaller scale. Pay attention to how the plan is bored, dome transitions and privacy of the temperature section.
The value of small structures in the city memory often remains in the shade of large monuments. Yet neighborhood Hammam is a direct evidence to understand the rhythm of everyday life and the social size of access to water.
Invisible Network That Brings Water to Structure
Do not think about the architecture of the baths independent of the water roads. From the source to the city, water, warehouses and channels are reaching the structure; in the ashhan section, the temperature of the space was organized by the system under the floor.
Complete the route with the water roads stop or insect burning environment makes the big infrastructure behind the tap in the bath. Total walk is enough to spread to two hours, to read both the building facades and the city texture between them without rushing.
